I'm a big fan of stand-up comedy. I remember watching comedy on network TV in my early and mid-teens (Monty Python's Flying Circus was a favourite), and then later shows such as Kids in the Hall, SCTV, and Codco were ones I liked.
When I was in my early 30s and living in Ottawa, I went to a lot of live stand-up shows at Yuk-Yuks, and also started to listen to performers on (yes) CD.
My love of stand-up continued as I got older. I'm sure I've seen hundreds of live shows. I've co-written a biography of Greg Giraldo, one of the best stand-ups of the 90s and early 2000s. (We had a great launch for the book.) And in the fall of 2025, when I was living in St. John's, NL, I started to performed my own stand-up at various amateur open-mic venues in the city.
Over the years I've also developed strong likings and dislikings of various stand-up comedians. Check out my favourites and least favourites here.
